BOB GADDY is a big name in New York City blues and R&B history. Known for his work on recordings produced by the legendary Bobby Robinson, he often joined forces with guitarists Larry Dale and "Wild Man" Jimmy Spruill. This album is Gaddy alone at the piano, recorded by the late Muddy Waters sideman PAUL OSCHER, with whom he played in his later years. Gaddy's voice is soulful, classic R&B. Produced by Paul Oscher and Louis X. Erlanger.

This latest release is a dynamite live show from the Tombs House Of Detention in New York City in the 1980s, when Paul Oscher often brought a full all-star blues revue into clubs and theaters. On this particular recording Paul is at the top of his game on harp and guitar, with New York legendary pianist/vocalist Bob Gaddy and blues singer Rose Melody revving up the crowd as guest vocalists. Otis Spann disciple David Maxwell plays piano throughout and takes center stage for two incendiary tracks. Rounding out the driving rhythm section are blues veterans Candy McDonald on drums and Steve Gomes on bass. In the mid 1960’s when he was still in his late teens, Brooklyn-born Paul Oscher joined the Muddy Waters Blues Band, taking the harmonica slot formerly held by greats Little Walter, James Cotton and Big Walter Horton. Paul lived in Muddy Waters’ basement in Chicago with blues pianist Otis Spann, and toured the U.S. and Europe with the band. He also recorded a number of Chess recordings with them. His harp work inspired a generation of harp players, including Magic Dick of the J. Geils Band, Jerry Potnoy, Rick Estrin and more. Oscher was a multi-instrumentalist who played guitar, piano, accordion, and vibraphone, often in tandem with his harp. On “Rough Stuff” he plays many of these instruments, and is re-united with Muddy Waters bandmates Willie “Big Eyes” Smith on drums and Pinetop Perkins on piano. It is the lowdown blues.
